Child & Play Therapy
Kids deserve support too.
Children experience many of the same emotions adults do, but they often do not have the words, emotional awareness, or coping skills to fully express what they are feeling. Instead, emotions may show up through behavior changes, anxiety, emotional outbursts, withdrawal, difficulties at school, sleep concerns, or challenges in relationships with family and peers.
Building life long skills.
Child therapy provides a safe, supportive environment where children can express themselves, develop emotional awareness, build coping skills, and work through life's challenges in a way that is appropriate for their age and developmental stage. This support will help build life long emotional resilience.
-
Children may benefit from therapy for a variety of concerns, including:
Anxiety and excessive worry
Emotional outbursts or difficulty managing emotions
Behavioral concerns at home or school
Attention and focus difficulties
Social challenges and friendship concerns
Low self-confidence
School-related stress
Family transitions such as divorce or remarriage
Grief and loss
Trauma or difficult life experiences
Adjustment to major life changes
Military family transitions, deployments, or relocations
Every child is different. Some children are able to verbalize their struggles clearly, while others communicate their emotions through behavior, play, or physical complaints.
-
Child therapy helps children better understand their emotions, develop healthy coping skills, improve communication, and build confidence.
Therapy may help children:
Identify and express emotions more effectively
Improve emotional regulation
Develop healthy coping skills
Increase self-confidence and self-esteem
Improve social skills and peer relationships
Reduce anxiety and emotional distress
Strengthen problem-solving abilities
Process difficult experiences and life changes
Improve family relationships
Develop greater resilience and adaptability
The skills children learn in therapy often support success at home, in school, and in relationships.
-
Therapy sessions are designed to be engaging, supportive, and developmentally appropriate.
Depending on the child's age and needs, sessions may include:
Play-based activities
Art and creative expression
Therapeutic games
Skill-building exercises
Emotional identification and regulation activities
Parent consultation and support
Our goal is to create an environment where children feel comfortable enough to express themselves, build trust, and develop new skills.
-
Parents and caregivers are an important part of the therapy process.
Children spend the majority of their time outside of therapy sessions, which makes parent involvement essential for lasting progress. Throughout treatment, we provide support, education, and practical strategies that can be used at home to reinforce growth and skill development.
We view therapy as a partnership between the child, family, and therapist.
-
The first appointment includes both the child and parent or caregiver. This allows us to begin building rapport with the child while also gathering important information about concerns, strengths, family dynamics, and treatment goals.
Following the initial appointment, some sessions may be primarily with the child, while others may include parent participation depending on the child's age, needs, and goals.
As therapy progresses, we work collaboratively with families to support growth, strengthen relationships, and help children successfully navigate challenges.
Our approach to child therapy.
We utilize developmentally appropriate, evidence-based approaches designed specifically for kids.
-
Play is a child's natural language. Through play therapy, children are able to express thoughts, emotions, and experiences that may be difficult to communicate through words alone.
Using toys, games, art, storytelling, and other creative interventions, therapists help children process emotions, build coping skills, and develop healthier ways of responding to challenges.
-
When appropriate, CBT techniques help children identify connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors while learning practical skills for managing anxiety, emotions, and everyday challenges.
-
For children who have experienced stressful or overwhelming events, trauma-informed approaches help create safety, understanding, and healing while building emotional resilience.
Treatment is individualized to meet each child's developmental needs, strengths, and goals.
